The 'platform wagon' carried six sections of firing platform for 305mm and 370mm railway guns. An attached crane unloaded and set the sections in place.

French Transbordeur.
Large-calibre railway guns required cranes and hoists to transfer rounds from the ammunition cars to the gun.

German Turntable Mount for 38cm S.K.l/45 'Max'
German firing platforms permitted railway guns to rotate on the mount, providing a wide field of fire. This steel turntable example was the most sophisticated mount, built for the 38cm S.K.l/45 'Max' and later used by the 21cm Paris Gun.
