'Tidal Wave' approaches Ploesti. 1st August 1943

Operation Tidal Wave was the name given to the raid by the USAAF on the Ploesti oilfields in Romania, Germany's most important fuel source.
In this painting the B-24D Liberator bombers of 98th Group in their 'Desert Pink' camouflage paint scheme and the 'Olive Drab' painted aircraft of the 44th Group, begin their decent over the flat Romanian countryside as they approach Ploesti.
'The Witch' and 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves' survived the bomb run over Ploesti but were shot down by Bulgarian fighters on the return home.
