British private, 1/24th Regiment, Isandlwana 1879

A detailed pencil study of a private of the 24th Regiment.
Armed with the Martini-Henry rifle, the companies of the 1st and 2nd battalions of the 24th Regiment formed the backbone of the British camp at Isandlwana.
This figure wears minimal equipment of haversack, water bottle and ammunition pouches.
Along with so many others, the 24th Regiment was decimated in the battle by the overwhelming Zulu attack, losing 21 officers and 581 other ranks.
