Tank Clash at Martynovka. The Caucasus, July 28-29, 1942

As they prepared for a counter-attack against the advancing First Panzer Army, the newly arrived 135th and 155th Tank Brigades along with two cavalry divisions occupied the town of Martynovka.
However the Germans took the initative launching Kampfgruppe Burmeister and elements of 201st Panzer Regiment, along with two motorised battalions against the Soviets southern flank on 28th July, scattering two cavalry regiments and tanks of the 135th Tank Brigade.
Next day, they advanced north to attack the bulk of the Soviet force from the rear.
Here a PzKpfw IV Ausf.G of the 201st Regiment, fires on a T-34 while a T-70 beyond burns.
The Soviet force was destroyed, it's commander killed and 77 tanks destroyed or captured. The 201st Panzer Regiment lost three tanks in the fighting at Martynovka.
