In February 1943 in an attempt to drive the German Seventeenth Army from it's position in the Kuban Bridgehead, the Soviets launced an amphibious operation at Ozerekya Bay near Novorossiysk. This force included 30 Stuarts of the 563rd Tank Battalion. This landing was repulsed but a secondary beach assault was able to hold a small bridgehead which was held until the German withdrawl in September 1943.
