Annihilation of the Triumviral Reinforcements

In an attempt to reinforce the Triumvir forces, Calvinus made a bid to run the gauntlet of the Republican blockade.
130 Republican warships intercepted the Triumvir convoy, swooping on the transport ships carrying the reinforcements. Many transports were set ablaze as the Republican galleys fired flaming missiles.
In this painting Triumvir legionaries leap from their transport ship onto the deck of a Republican galley as legionary fights legionary.
Most of the surviving transports and escorting galleys surrendered in what was a disaster for the Triumvirs with its potential implications for Anthony and Octavian, who would either triumph of loose at Philippi.
