As the battle of Trafalgar approached its climax, the crew of the French ship Redoutable prepared to board HMS Victory, firing and throwing grenades onto Victory's deck.
Nelson, mortally wounded, had already been taken below, and Victory's guns were silent.
Just at this crucial moment, the Temeraire came to Victory's aid, crashing into Redoutables starboard side and unleashing a devastating, point-blank broadside.
