In the early hours of 25 April, mist covered the valley floor below Hill 235 and the positions held by 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.
The Chinese launched another attack, desperate to overrun the now surrounded Glosters position, and continue the offensive further to the south.
Launching human wave attacks the Chinese troops got within 20-50 m (22-55 yards) of the Gloster defences, particularly in A Company's sector.
Chinese forces eventually overran the highest point of Hill 235- but Gloster counter-attacks drove them off. Airstrikes and artillery fire eventually pushed the Chinese off the hill long enough for the Glosters to attempt their breakout.
