Clash at Horodenka. 4th July 1941

This painting is a Hungarian view of the advance at Horodenka against the Soviet rearguard defending the approach to the village.

The Hungarian 5th Motorized Rifle Battalion was ordered to advance to Horodenka and capture the remaining bridges over the River Dnestr.
In the vanguard was the 2nd Rifle Company who were ambushed as they approached the outskirts of the village.
In this painting the troops hastily disembark as they come under fire, finding cover behind their Krupp-Protze and 38M Botond trucks. While the 8mm 31M light machine gun mounted in the Krupp-Protze truck provides covering fire, the young platoon commander falls wounded.
Eventually the Hungarian troops fought their way into the village fighting for every house until the Soviet defenders were driven out.
